Книга представляет из себя первую часть первого тома сочинения экономиста, декабриста Николая Ивановича Тургенева (1789-1871) "Россия и русские" (перевод с парижского издания "La Russie et les Russes" 1847 года). Содержит воспоминания автора о Европе и России в начале XIX века, об общественном движении и тайном обществе декабристов.
